Frequently asked questions
ENTRY INTO MADEIRA DURING COVID19
For Canadians to enter Madeira, a Canadian Vaccine Passport is necessary. No tests are required for entry if you have proof of vaccination. All arriving passengers must register online with Madeirasafe and should carry a phone or electronic device with them on which they can be contacted.
RETURNING TO CANADA
Canadians returning to Canada must register online with Arrivecan. They must show their proof of vaccination and also have a negative PCR test done within 72 hours of arrival in Canada.
COVID19 TEST IN MADEIRA
For vaccinated travellers, no test is required to enter Madeira. If it is still necessary to be tested before returning to Canada, the government of Madeira offers one free PCR test that is available at the clinic in nearby Funchal. Madeirasafe will make an appointment. Results will be emailed so it is necessary to have a device to receive emails.
WHAT IF I TEST POSITIVE ?
If you test positive at the end of your holiday, arrangements will be made by local health authorities to send you to a hotel to isolate for five days. At the end of the five days no further test is necessary to end isolation but you would still need a negative test to return to Canada. The cost of the hotel nights, meals and extra tests would be at your expense. We recommend that you have insurance to cover this. Manulife Pandemic Insurance policy will cover up to $2800 in additional expenses ($200 per person per day for hotel) and the extra cost for a new air ticket (up to $500).
